The Town of Peterborough NH

The Town of Peterborough, NH

image samplePeterborough, with its many unique shops and restaurants, is the quintessential New England small town with its mixture of well-preserved early architecture and beautifully landscaped parks and rivers. Featured in Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Peterborough is renowned for its cultural and educational events.

With the establishment of The MacDowell Colony in 1907 by Edward and Marian MacDowell, Peterborough has become a mecca for composers, authors and visual artists. Established in 1933, Peterborough Players is the oldest operating summer theatre in the country and enjoys the reputation of being one of the country’s finest summer theatre groups. The nationally acclaimed Monadnock Music in Peterborough and Apple Hill Chamber Music in nearby Nelson offer some of the best classical music programs outside of Boston and New York.

The Monadnock region is also home to hundreds of artists and writers who fill the town’s many art galleries and bookstores with their works.

I love coming out to Peterborough and doing some shopping. The stores are all so unique in their offerings. I can find things at Depot Square that I can't find anywhere else! Plus there are so many great places to eat in the square that I usually make it a day trip."
